As a full-time teacher and a parent, I’ve always believed in the importance of education. But it wasn’t until I realised my own child is struggling that I understood this might be a problem for lots of young people nearing their exams.
He was studying for his GCSE’s but he was becoming increasingly frustrated, nervous and agitated. He would take long breaks between learning sessions and did not look at all keen to resume studying. I saw all the above as warning signs that something was not right and realised he does not posses the necessary ‘’ tools ‘’ to make his learning experience an easy and productive one.
He wasn’t lacking ability —he was overwhelmed. With multiple subjects, large amounts of information, and no clear strategy, he simply didn’t know where to start.
That moment changed everything for me. It made me realise that learning itself is a skill—and one that many students are never actually taught.
That realisation led me to take a different approach. I began working closely with my son, teaching him simple but powerful techniques to help him structure his learning, stay focused, and retain information more effectively.
The change was clear. He became calmer, more confident, and far more in control of his studies. That experience is what inspired me to create Next Level Students—to help other parents and students who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to begin.
